Living with Diabetes

The Living With Diabetes program is FREE and specifically for those with Type-2 Diabetes, their caregivers and significant others.

The workshop content focuses on Diabetes and covers the following topics:

  1. Techniques to deal with the symptoms of diabetes, fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress and emotional issues like depression, anger, fear and frustration;
  2. Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength and endurance;
  3. Healthy eating;
  4. Appropriate use of medication; and
  5. Working effectively with healthcare providers.

The workshop is given in 2.5 hour sessions, once a week, for 6 weeks in community settings like senior centers, churches, libraries and hospitals. The workshops are facilitated by two trained leaders, who have diabetes or are acting as caregivers to someone with diabetes.

Classes are highly participative. Mutual support and success build confidence in participants' ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.
